4/∞: INTELLECTUAL BADASSES INC.
IBI started when they were fifteen. Sure, in retrospect, it was a corny name. But at the time, it made perfect sense. They each had their own talent which they put to excellent (read: mischievous) purposes. There is Imani Rutherford - the hacker and the youngest in the group, though she often assumed the role of unofficial leader. Then there’s Sandra Li - an expert at all things to do with numbers and patterns. Finally, there is Nate Maher, the eligible bachelor son of a natural resources billionaire who had been playing the stock market like a pro before he was even old enough to take a basic finance class. As they got older and left the hallowed halls of Hamilton High, their capacity to wreak havoc only expanded.Together, the three run a blog entitled ‘Intellectual Badasses Inc’ where they expose every major scoop and scandal in Sky City before the major news networks.
Their double lives become dangerously blurred when an oil spill off a nearby coast is closely linked with Maher Corp - Nate’s father’s company. While Nate’s allegiances are being called into question, a major media conglomerate, the Sky City Tribune, is hellbent on buying IBI at any cost - even if it means exposing the three well-meaning troublemakers behind it. Imani tries to distance herself from the frustratingly charming Tribune reporter, Shawn Matheson, but he might be leading a double life of his own. Meanwhile, Sandra struggles to develop an identity outside of IBI and tries to come to terms with feeling like the forgotten middle child in both her real and shadow lives.
Will the three friends choose to close the chapter on IBI for good?
fyi ‘satire’ isn’t just ‘hyperbolic exaggeration of the same shit we usually see with a disclaimer that it’s different.’ There actually has to be, like, an element of condemnation in its thesis.
It’s not ironic if it actively celebrates what it’s condemning.
just wanted to put that out there
a never-ending list of fantasical tales - by the Eternal Ingenue
Set against the backdrop of the dusty and expansive Axumite Empire, this miniseries follows the lives and intrigues of the kingdom’s upper echelons. The ambitious and foolhardy Emperor Kaleb is determined to stretch the reaches of his power northward into Nubia and further East into Saba, where none of his predecessors had dared to venture. Meanwhile, his young and wide-eyed prospective bride, Sofya, is adjusting to life at court but repeatedly finds herself at the centre of gossip and speculation. And a mysterious philosopher washes up on the shores of Zeila, bringing with him whispers of a New World and shifting tides.
Juxtaposing the extravagant opulence and formal customs of the period with the violence of battle and the perils of ambition, Aksum sheds light on a flawed ensemble of characters and the desert kingdom they build to dizzying heights.
